Born in the USA: Corvette Stingray 2014

Al nivel de una Águila Calva, el Chevrolet Corvette se ha vuelto un ícono inconfundible e irremplazable en la cultura norteamericana.

frankymostro-stingray.IMG_1830El orgullo gabacho total, el “american pride” que le llaman, siempre ha recaído bajo el chasis del superdeportivo americano por excelencia desde aquel Stingray Split-Window de 1963 que fue puesto a prueba en tremenda batalla contra el Ferrari GTO y el Jaguar E Type y que a nadie decepcionó. Reviviendo uno de los nombres mas valiosos de su chistera la marca gabacha vaya que le metió ganas a este auto, empezando por la acción radical de cambiar las clásicas curvas del Corvette para darle paso a los ángulos tajantes. De hecho ahora el “Vette” luce más pequeñito y ágil, a menos que lo agarremos totalmente de cola en donde se ve más petacón que una velocista jamaiquina de 100 metros planos. Las exageradas formas se acoplan a la perfección, y es que la facilidad que da la fibra de carbono para tomar formas caprichosas se ven presentes en el diseño, por eso el cofre y el techo (targa) están fabricados en ese carbonoso material.
Para mantener el nivel de excentricidad los faros delanteros bien podrían ser de diseño italiano, sí, ese que presumen arrogantes al mundo. Las calaveras redondas, un claro distintivo del Corvette ahora vienen un tanto “acamaradas”, o sea que ahora son cuadradas, seguro más de uno reclamará pero pensándolo bien van mejor con el nuevo diseño.

Pero no solo se trataba de que se viera bravo y bonito, tenía que portarse así y vaya que se logró. No solo fue hacer un motor más grande, no, de hecho el LT1 de tercera generación sigue siendo basado en el 350 cc de 5.7 estrokeado a 6.2 litros; claro, ahora con la magia de la inyección directa y apertura inteligente de válvulas, las cuales solo le echan mas consomé al caldo cuando se necesita. La caja manual es de 7 p’al frente, si, no fue dedazo. La aceleración de 0 a 100 km/h toma poquito menos de 4 segundos, y lo hace con sus 460 HP a través de un peculiar escape de 4 pipas juntas como maestros del CNTE marchando. Nada mal para el Corvette más económico de la gama, ¿no?

Antes que nada queremos agradecer a todos los pepenadores gringos por hacer bien su trabajo y reciclar todas las latas de refresco y permitir que todos los Stingray 2014 tengan un chasis completamente de aluminio, quitándoles peso y volviéndolos ágiles como ninguno antes visto. El sistema de suspensión Magnetic Ride con amortiguadores electromagnéticos es una chulada, pues ahora se puede adaptar en cinco diferentes tipos de manejo con solo girar una perilla. Incluido el Track Mode que vuelve el auto en una tabla más dura que la del 9.

Otro cambio significativo es el interior… vaya, ahora más que un Chevrolet le tira a Cadillac, ya era justo para un auto que no es precisamene barato. Los asientos Recaro son una chulada y hechos solo para este auto, así que no gastes tiempo en Pericoapa o Satélite buscándolos. La calidad de materiales, así como un mejor armado, son excelentes, ahora sí Chevrolet se encargó de tapar bocas a los mamilas que sostenían que ese era justo el punto débil de este gringo precioso.
La pregunta lógica es: ¿Qué sigue ahora?¿El Z06 con motor 427? ¿El ZR1 supercargado arañando los 700 HP? No lo sabemos, pero lo sospechamos. Y si ya andan reviviendo nombres de escualos del pasado por qué no pensar que alguno de los modelos radicales pueda llamarse Mako Sark. Me cae que debería cobrarle a Chevrolet por darles la idea. Bueno, con que me hagan un descuento en los 990,000 pesos que va a costar esta chulada me conformo.
